Congregational Governance

How does our Governance work?

Our church is "congregational" in polity, which means that key leaders are elected by the membership of the congregation on a regular basis. Leadership is split into two areas:

The Governance Board will comprise seven to nine voting members and will govern primarily by discerning mission, planning for the future, adopting governance policies, conducting oversight, and evaluating performance.

Operational decision-making is largely delegated to the pastor, staff, committees, and ministry teams as defined and regulated by board policy.

Our church has recently moved to this single-board structure – 1 board, consisting of 6 elected officers (of whom 5 serve on the Governance Board in addition to the Pastor), 4-6 additional members elected to the Governance Board.

This structure also uses a Moderator Team (Moderator, Moderator-elect, and Past-Moderator) to support leadership development and consistency over time.
