Still of sermon video on Facebook

In efforts to slow the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19), Hillsboro UCC is temporarily suspending all in-person worship and gatherings. We invite members and friends to worship with us virtually by joining our live stream on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m on our Facebook page or Youtube channel. We'll also be posting a digital worship packet for you to follow along or use at your convenience. Note: You do not need a Facebook account to view our public page.

Thanks for your understanding and we look forward to worshipping with you and supporting you in prayer through this time.

Strings of Strength is a project to provide comfort items to survivors of sexual assault and violence who share their stories with the Break the Silence Sunday (BTSS) team. Since starting BTSS in 2015, Rev. Moira has had over 820 survivors share their stories with her. This year at General Synod, a resolution was passed to recognize Break the Silence Sunday once per year nationally throughout the denomination. Since then, Rev. Moira has started a project to create and collect items of comfort that she can pass out to survivors at the next General Synod, conference meeting, and wherever else she encounters those brave enough to speak up. Since our church was one of the first churches in the Pacific Northwest to adopt BTSS, I’m hoping we can continue to provide our support and build on our summer theme of creativity as spiritual practice!

November 1-3. Oregon Garden Resort, Silverton

The Central Pacific Conference and Pacific Northwest Conference invite all women to come together at our regional retreat this fall. The Board of Mission and Outreach is planning an evening presentation of “How Are the Children?,” a video depicting the abusive accusation, arresting, and incarceration of innocent children in Palestine. The video will be followed by a Question and Answer period. Please mark your calendar to reserve Tuesday, October 15, at 7:00 p.m.

Our Thursday morning Bible study will resume September 12 at 9:30 a.m. This year we will meet in the Groovy Room, located in the basement of the sanctuary building. Our study will be the book A Woman Jesus Can Teach by Alice Mathews. Please let Carolyn Booth know if you plan to attend so enough books will be ordered.

Can you teach a few Sundays a month? We have great materials, shiny new classrooms, and engaging children. If you enjoy children from preschool to eighth grade we'd love to have you join our team. Contact Laura in the church office if you are interested.

Please sign up on the list in the Narthex to spend an occasional Sunday morning assisting in the CE building hallway. The job involves being aware of strangers in the building and being a support to the Sunday school teachers and nursery attendant. We even have a cushy chair waiting for you in the hallway by the drinking fountain! Please consider signing up for this important volunteer role.
