Witness of the Spirit for Jan 29, 2012

A year ago, I was lying – and kicking – in a hospital bed, and my family members were being warned they might be planning a funeral.  Instead 5 1/2 weeks of hospitalization, a traumatic brain injury and a coma later, I got to go home and care for my two beautiful children.  I entered outpatient therapy, as well as Lego therapy, courtesy of my boys.  You’d be shocked how hard Legos are to build for the newly brain injured.  No wonder babies try to eat them. …

You might shake your head when I say this, but I see the brain injury and coma as a gift.  I was shown how loving, capable and deep my support group was.  It became crystal clear how interconnected we are: friends, family, lifesavers and the people saved, even columnists and readers.
