Adult Sunday School

NEW ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS: Michael Lewis will be teaching a three part series in March on “Archaeology and the Bible.” March 5: The Scholarly Background: In the 18th and 19th Century two ways of doing archaeology developed: Classical/Historical and Anthropological. These different approaches would cause a revolution in our understanding of biblical history. March 12: Re-visioning Biblical Histories: In the 19th and 20th Centuries these two archaeologies are applied to the record of ancient Israel/Palestine raising questions about biblical text and biblical context. March 19: The Quest for the Historical Jesus: In the 20th Century, biblical scholars seek the “Historical Jesus” by applying textual and contextual analyses to the Gospels. Their process invites us to consider the different ways in which we read, use and understand scripture today.
